Desire, Part III

The growing Christian must understand what defines maturity as a believer. Patience and many of the other fruits of the Spirit are not just talked about but show themselves in the life of a mature believer. They are not argumentative or coarse and hot headed. Faith in Christ is important but many are more concerned with their right to be right. It is not about being right or having the "true message" but instead it is about loving God and loving others.

One such marker that shows our maturity in Christ is desire. If I could be anything or if I could ask anything and it be fulfilled immediately before my eyes, I would ask for a closer walk with God or to be a great part of His awesome plan. I would ask this even if it meant pain and sacrifice. I don't want a car. I don't want anything but God's glory. I am content with whatever He wants for me, in good and in bad there is always a purpose or a lesson.

Desire for God is such conviction that boils over to an investment in God where God consumes your life. It determines the music I listen to and the shows I watch or don't watch. I am not interested in this world or anything it has to offer. I only look toward the blessed hope and a new Heaven and Earth. I look toward the future He has promised me and I must nurture the faith in that promise everyday.

1 John 2:15-17

15Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16For everything in the world—the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does—comes not from the Father but from the world. 17The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever.
